This download contains an improved version of the drivers found on the Creative ZEN and Jukebox installation CD. It provides Unicode support. For more details, read the rest of this web release note.

  1. Turn on your player.

  3. Connect the player to your computer.

This driver upgrade adds support for Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition. It also delivers improvements to these players: Creative Zen, Creative Zen Micro, Creative Zen Touch, Creative NOMAD® Jukebox Zen Xtra and Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen NX.

This firmware update enhances your Zen Xtra player with PlaysForSure™ functionality.

PlaysForSure devices enable you to:

• Use subscription-based online music services
• Enjoy seamless support with any computer running Microsoft® Windows Media® Player 10 or 11 and Windows® XP - no drivers or software needed
• Use the drag-and-drop method to transfer songs or files to your player through Windows Explorer
• Use the Sync feature in Windows Media Player 10 or 11 to synchronize your player with your music library and playlists.

IMPORTANT:

• This firmware update permanently replaces your player's current firmware. Your player's firmware cannot be reverted to its original once this update is installed.
• This firmware upgrade enables playback of subscription music service content on the Zen Xtra, but may reduce the total number of files that the player can store. The actual results will vary depending on content specifications, and the result may be more evident in players with larger capacity.
• When upgrading the firmware, ONLY use computers running Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) with Windows Media Player 10.
• Be sure to back up all the audio and data files on your Zen Xtra before installing this firmware update as all content will be lost when you install the new firmware. After installing the PlaysForSure firmware, use Windows Media Player 10 or 11 to restore audio and/or data files to your player.
• Software updates are required if you want to use any currently installed applications like Creative MediaSource™, NOMAD® Explorer, or other track management tools with your player after installing this firmware.
• Installation of this firmware may take up to five minutes, and your device may restart a number of times during installation.
• Do not disconnect the USB cable from your player or computer during installation.
• Be sure to fully charge your player before updating the firmware.

Added Features or Enhancements:

• Supports Audible audio Type 4.
• Activates your Zen Xtra player in order to listen to and manage your Audible audio.
• Enables you to navigate sections within Audible audio by using the “Goto Section” feature from the “Now Playing” screen.
• Enables you to return to the last playback position of Audible programs after playing other audio tracks.

Notes:

• Before installing the firmware update, be sure that you have:
• Charged the player's battery
• Connected the power cable
• Turned off your player
• Disconnected your player's USB cable from your computer
• To install the firmware update, you must first remove the firmware in your player using the Reload OS function:

1. Press and hold the Play button, while inserting a pin or paper clip into the Reset button on your player. The Reset button is near the Volume buttons.
   The player starts up in Rescue mode.
2. Select the Reload OS option.
   The current firmware will be erased from the player.
3. Connect your player to your computer with the USB cable.
4. Double-click the firmware file, and follow the instructions on the screen.
5. When prompted, click the Upgrade option.
6. When the upgrade is complete, your player restarts.
   A "rebuilding the library" message appears on your player's LCD. This message disappears when your player has finished rebuilding the music library.
   The firmware is now updated.

ZENcast Organizer seamlessly integrates ZENcast media files with Creative portable media players and/or your computer. Some portable media players may only support ZENcast audio files.

Fixes:

• Resolves download issues on certain subscribed channels.

Sync Manager (6.04.16)

Sync Manager enables you to synchronize various types of media files and data stored in your Creative portable media player and your computer.

Video Converter (5.60.16)

Video Converter enables you to convert video files to a format and size suitable for your video capable Creative portable media player. Use the application also to transfer converted video files to your video capable Creative portable media player.

This update addresses a security vulnerability that Creative users face when using Gracenote© services like MusicID™ (formerly known as CDDB™). • Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra with PlaysForSure firmware (2.10.03 and above) installed

Notes

• To check your player's firmware version number:
1. Press and hold the Power button to turn on your player (if necessary).
2. Select Settings -> About... in the main menu.
   The firmware version number is displayed under the Version heading.
• To check your Creative MediaSource version number:
1. Launch Creative MediaSource.
2. Click Help on the menu bar.
3. Select the About Creative MediaSource option.
   The version number is displayed in the dialog box that appears.
