Microphone Not Working for Gaming Headsets with Inline Volume Control

  • This article gives troubleshooting steps for no sound from gaming headsets' microphone.
  1. Ensure that the microphone jack of the headset is connected to the computer's microphone input port.
  1. Connect a headphones/microphone splitter cable to the headset if the 3.5mm jack is a 4-pole jack.

  1. Check if the switch on the inline control is switched on.
  1. Check if the microphone is properly connected to the headset.
  1. If the headset has a 4-pole 3.5mm jack, test the microphone by connecting the headset to your smart mobile device by making a phone call. If the microphone is working the problem lies with your computer's configuration.
  1. Ensure that microphone input is selected as the default device under Sound -> Recording of Windows.

  1. If there is a control panel software for your audio device, ensure that Microphone input is selected instead of Line In.
  1. If you want to hear yourself from your microphone, you can check on "Listen to this device".
